About

The Philosophy Department is committed to equipping students with the tools to confidently navigate both classical and contemporary issues through diverse, high-quality courses in philosophy, while demonstrating philosophy’s relevance in a constantly changing world through the active scholarly work of our faculty and a range of co-curricular activities.

Our commitment to student learning and to removing financial and accessibility barriers is reflected in one of the department’s most impactful recent initiatives: the Hunter Logic App.

Professor Yuna Won and a team of student interns and volunteers from Computer Science and Philosophy have been developing a free logic learning app for students taking logic courses at Hunter. This innovation replaces costly online software and textbooks that previously cost students $150 per semester and offers full screen reader compatibility, making logic learning more accessible.

This semester, more than 60 students are already taking advantage of the Hunter Logic App, and we anticipate that number will grow to 150 next semester!

Built by Hunter students for Hunter students…

The app reflects a powerful model of collaboration, innovation, and educational equity. Student developers gain hands-on experience in pedagogical software design, development, and implementation, in addition to strengthening their communication and analytical thinking, foundational skills emphasized in philosophy.

Your support can help the Hunter Logic App continue to grow, improving functionality, expanding our servers, and adding advanced screen reader features for enhanced accessibility, so it can reach and support more students while remaining a high-quality and free resource for years to come.

Your Giving Day support will also help the Philosophy Department expand its reach and better support our students by strengthening the Philosophy Club, the undergraduate philosophy conference, and a vibrant program of invited talks and events that bring philosophical insight to today’s most pressing issues.
